Legend Point is KB Home's community on Klein Road, between South Walnut Avenue and FM 1044, on the Guadalupe County side of New Braunfels. It grew in sections, and the oldest houses have stood since about 2013.
Four sections along Klein Road
Legend Point came first, then The Reserves, which held its grand opening in May 2017, followed by Legend Meadow and Legend Heights. Streets include Legend Pond, Bass Lane, Bentwood Way, Klein Meadows and Whispering Oak. Because the sections opened years apart, two neighbors on one street can own water heaters of very different ages; the date on the label is what counts.
A mandatory homeowners association (HOA) runs the pool, playground, pavilion and walking trail. Klein Road Elementary, Long Creek High School and Zipp Family Sports Park are all close by.
When do Legend Point water heaters start to fail?
The first-phase tanks are reaching that point now. Tank water heaters typically last 8 to 15 years, which puts an original 2013 tank well into the range. Tanks rarely quit without warning, so watch for these signs:
- Rumbling or popping: sediment has built up on the bottom.
- Shorter hot showers: scale or a failing part is stealing capacity.
- Rusty hot water: the anode rod may be used up.
- A damp ring underneath: the start of a leak.
A dry tank with one bad part is a repair. Water coming from the tank body itself means replacement. The full set of warning signs, and how to read the build date off the label, is in how long do water heaters last.
Hard water's share of the blame
If NBU supplies your house, its 2019 water quality report (opens in a new tab) (2018 data) listed 8.1 to 19.5 grains per gallon, and newer NBU reports give no figure. Scale from that water settles on the tank floor year after year, so a tank that was never drained carries a decade of it.
The City's utilities page (opens in a new tab) also lists Green Valley Special Utility District (SUD) as a water supplier in the southeast, so look at your water bill to see whose water you have. The hard water and water heaters guide explains why the answer changes how often to flush.

Should you repair or replace a Legend Point water heater?
Age and the source of the problem decide it. A tank well short of 8 years with one failed part, such as a thermostat, element or thermocouple, is usually worth repairing; a typical repair visit runs $200–$850.
Past 10 years, a repair makes sense only for a small, inexpensive part on a tank that isn't leaking. With rust in the hot water or sediment a flush won't shift, new parts rarely pay off, and a leak from the tank itself settles the question.
What does replacing a Legend Point water heater cost?
Swapping in a standard tank, installed, usually lands between $1,000 and $3,400.

The spread comes from tank size, fuel and code parts. A fair quote lists the permit, haul-away, fittings, and whether an expansion tank or a drain pan is required at your address. Check which fuel your home has before comparing prices; CenterPoint gas reaches many parts of the city, but not every street. Each line of a replacement quote is explained in the water heater replacement cost guide.
Before you call, and what happens next
Take two minutes to look. On an electric water heater, check the panel for a tripped double breaker; on gas, see whether the pilot is out. If water is running, turn the cold-water valve on top clockwise until it stops, and set a gas dial to OFF.
Then call or text (830) 243-5644; we answer 24/7. A call comes right back, and you'll know the price before anyone starts work.
Ask for the license number, since Texas master plumbers carry one that begins with M. Or use the form to get your price in writing.
Legend Point households can get water heater repair for a rumble or a pilot that won't hold, water heater replacement when an early tank is finished, water heater installation of a bigger tank for a house that outgrew the builder's pick, tankless water heaters as the replacement route where the fuel allows, emergency water heater service for water on the garage floor, and gas and electric water heaters either way.

Questions homeowners ask
My house in The Reserves at Legend Point dates from about 2017. Should I replace the water heater now?
Not on age alone. Have the anode rod checked and a little water drained to see the sediment; a spent anode and rusty water argue for replacing on your own schedule, while a clean tank can stay.
What does a popping or rumbling water heater in Legend Point mean?
Usually sediment. Hard-water scale on the tank bottom traps water that boils and pops as the tank heats, and a flush often quiets it.
Legend Point is on the Guadalupe County side. Does the New Braunfels permit still apply?
City limits decide it, not the county line. Part of New Braunfels extends into Guadalupe County, and inside the limits the City requires a permit to replace a plumbing system, normally pulled by the licensed plumber doing the job.
Is Legend Point water from NBU or Green Valley SUD?
Your water bill will say. The City lists NBU for most of New Braunfels and Green Valley SUD for the southeast, and only NBU's 2019 report gives a hardness figure to plan flushing around.
